Universe III

Boots,Blood,and Booty

In 218 BC, a starving Turdetani widow cuts the throat of her last newborn goat and prays to Tanit to save her from ruin. Lauren Sykes opens her eyes in the widow's body. Lu is a combat veteran who clawed her way back from a shattered knee, a pill habit and the loss of her unit, and she became a historian so she could study war from a safe distance. Now she's twenty years old again, wearing a dead stranger's life on a failing farm in the Baetis valley, with a harvest that won't cover the tithe. She never learns where the woman who prayed went. Then raiders come for the grain and for her, and the soldier she buried wakes up with a sickle in her hand. In a land where armies strip the countryside and nobody is coming to help, she climbs from widow to trader to sea captain to warlord. She holds her men with silver and with a priestess's legend she knows is a lie, until the lie starts behaving like the truth. She knows how this war ends. She knows Carthage will be burned, salted and slandered by the men who destroyed it, and every piece of history she changes costs her another page of what she knows is coming. There are no good guys on the road to Cannae, and Lu isn't one either. Boots, Blood, and Booty is a grimdark LitRPG set in the Second Punic War, where nobody is safe and survival means becoming the most dangerous thing on the field.
